The first few minutes...

The first few minutes in the life of a new customer are crucial. While websites enjoy a mere 5 to 8 seconds of attention before users decide to leave or continue, SaaS apps are lucky in that they have minutes to convince new customers to hang around (not a lot of time, right?).

But the first few minutes of a new customer journey are full of excitement and doubt. 

  • Will this help me solve my problem? I sure hope so!
  • How do I use this? Is it going to be easy?
  • Does it work how I think it should? I hope so!

SaaS customers spend very little time learning how to use software (in fact most won’t even use your carefully crafted Walkthrough). They want to know instinctively how it works.

This means you need to have all your ducks in a row. 

  • An easy sign-up process.
  • Fantastic onboarding that can be left and returned to at any point.
  • An intuitive app. 
  • Have the solution they’re looking for. 

And you need to convince them of all this, in the space of a few minutes!

So who am I?

My name’s Nathan J. Powell and I’ve been a designer since 2005…Yep, that’s a long time. In fact, it was so long ago that I began my career designing for print. Remember that?

However, in 2013 I designed and launched my software as a service business, Nusii. They say no plan survives first contact with the enemy... and that's never more true than when building a SaaS business. The day I graduated from designer to product owner, was the day it all changed for me.

Of course, I stumbled and fell many times, but the lessons I learned were invaluable. I want to help you bypass the mistakes I made and for a fraction of the cost :) I'm going to give you the product shortcuts I never had.
